When Learning Crosses Borders: Welcoming Orange Moon Training to Little Caliphs®
Learning becomes even more meaningful when educators from different backgrounds come together to exchange ideas, experiences and perspectives.
Little Caliphs® Excellence Centre (LCEC), together with the Integrated Islamic School of Shah Alam (IISA), recently welcomed learners from Orange Moon Training in the United Kingdom for an international early years learning placement.
The visit provided the Orange Moon learners with an opportunity to experience early childhood education in Malaysia while working alongside our educators and engaging directly with the children. At the same time, it allowed our team to share the values, practices and learning environment that shape the Little Caliphs® educational experience.
Experiencing Early Years Education at Little Caliphs®
Throughout the placement, the visiting learners observed classroom practices, supported our educators and participated in activities such as literacy sessions and song time.
Rather than simply watching from the sidelines, they were encouraged to interact with the children and experience how learning is delivered through meaningful, age-appropriate activities.
The placement also created opportunities for both teams to discuss different approaches to early childhood education. Although educational practices may vary between Malaysia and the United Kingdom, both sides share the same commitment: providing children with positive experiences that support their learning, confidence and overall development.
Encouraging Curiosity Through Child-Centred Learning
One of the highlights of the placement involved exploring elements of the Reggio Emilia approach, a child-centred philosophy that encourages children to learn through curiosity, investigation and their own interests.
Working alongside our educators, the Orange Moon learners were invited to plan an activity that would inspire the children to explore, experiment and make their own discoveries.
Together, the team developed a hands-on play dough activity.
A range of ingredients, measuring tools, natural materials and colourings was carefully prepared to create an inviting learning environment. Instead of being given a completed product, the children were involved in the entire process of making their own play dough.
Growing Together Through International Collaboration
The placement was equally meaningful for the visiting learners and our Little Caliphs® educators.
The Orange Moon learners gained practical experience in a Malaysian early years setting, while our educators had the opportunity to exchange professional insights with individuals from a different educational and cultural background.
Experiences such as this remind us that education is not limited by geographical boundaries. When educators collaborate openly, everyone benefits from the professionals exchanging knowledge to the children whose learning experiences continue to grow richer.
